Where Moldavites are found

Moldavites are found mainly in southern Bohemia, in the Czech Republic, which contains the richest and most famous moldavite deposits. Smaller amounts have also been found in Austria and Germany. The distribution is not even, with the vast majority of known moldavites coming from southern Bohemia.

After the impact, the moldavites were deposited across the landscape and were later buried by sediments. Depending on the locality, they can be found at different depths, from relatively close to the surface to several metres underground. In many well-known deposits, moldavites occur within gravel and sandy sediment layers, which were deposited and reshaped over millions of years.
